In September I hit a point where I started to slow down on creating, I needed to step back and focus on finding my inspiration. As I did this, I decided the best option for me was to try something new to get my hands moving again. That’s when I picked up polymer clay and started creating miniature, and a whole new world opened up.

It was the fairy shelf project that kicked it off, I was thinking I would make a few silly things to add and that would be it. The next thing I know I’ve made over a dozen tiny items and the drive to create tiny things has continued to grow.

I wrapped up the fairy shelf last month, but I enjoyed creating it so much, that I want to continue with both miniature projects as well as just miniature items. Since creating the shelf, I’ve made a dozen donuts, a soft pretzel, and for December I will be honoring my late grandmother by creating 12 days of pies.

As a kid a favorite memory of mine was holiday dinners with my extended family. Something I look back on with fondness is the fact that my grandma would bake over a dozen different types of pies for desert, if you can name the pie, she likely made it. For years when my cousins and I were young we would fight over who got to take of favorite pies as left overs. My cousin Tiff and I would fight over the chocolate cream pie every year. Then my grandma did something truly heartwarming, and slightly insane. She started baking an addition pie for each grandkid so that we all got our favorite at the end of the night.

If you asked me to describe my grandma, warm and loving wouldn’t be the first words that came to mind, she often came off as angry and overwhelmed, but each holiday dinner she chose to show her love for her family through the food she cooked and the pies she crafted. As I look back on the memory it highlights the love she held for her multiple grandchildren.

So as I said in honor of her, throughout the month of December I will be creating individual slices of pie from polymer clay and I will be sharing them on my social media pages. As I move into 2025 I hope to continue creating miniature art, monthly paintings, opening a shop page on my website, and I’m setting this goal now…I want to have my pattern portfolio completed by the third quarter of 2025. I have big goals, but I feel like 2024 has gotten me closer to making them a reality, so I’m excited for 2025, and I look forward to you joining me on this crazy journey.
