This time last year I wouldn’t have believed that I would be ordering my first product. Ordering prints of my Curious Crow illustration has been a journey filled with research, decision-making, and excitement. This was my first time ordering prints for sale, so I wanted to make sure everything was just right.

Finding the Right Printer
The process started with finding the right printer. I reached out to different print shops to learn about their services, materials, and quality standards. Everything from Office depot to fine art giclรฉe prints. I also had to consider turnaround time, pricing, and sturdiness. After comparing different vendors and receiving samples, I chose a local printer that aligned with my needs and budget.
Selecting the Perfect Paper
Once I had a printer, the next step was choosing the right paper. I wanted something that would enhance the illustration, while maintaining a high-quality feel. Paper weight, texture, and finish all played a role in my decision. After much deliberation, I opted for a smooth, uncoated 130# cardstock that complements the cross-hatching and shading in my drawing.
They offered me a hard proof before committing to a full order, which my dog proceeded to step on the second I got in the car. Seeing the test print in person helped me confirm which paper choice I wanted, and I was very satisfied with the service provided. Janelle the woman who helped me through the process was happy to answer my questions and even offered information he felt would be useful. It was a great first printing experience.
Receiving the Prints
After finalizing all the details, I placed my order for 20 prints. I was so excited when I gave the go ahead to print them. After years of creating and planning my business, this year has been the year of betting on myself, and this product was just another step on that journey.
Waiting for them to arrive felt like forever, but when I got the call, I couldn’t wait to pick them up. When I did, I was thrilled! The prints looked even better than I had imagined. The richness of the black ink and the fine details translated beautifully onto the paper. Holding the final product in my hands was a rewarding moment. It made all the effort and decision-making feel worth it.
Product Photography
Every product online, needs some good photos to post. Since good visuals are essential for online sales, I wanted to capture the prints in a way that truly showcased their quality. I set up a flat lay on my kitchen island, using natural light and some of my favorite plants. I experimented with different angles and props to create an something I enjoyed. When I left my animal welfare career in 2021 I didn’t know what to expect. I definitely didn’t see myself standing on a step stool trying to capture an appealing photo of a product I created, but being here today has giving me so much joy and pride in what I’ve accomplished.

Planning a Product Giveaway
Once the photos were ready, I uploaded them to my website and officially added the Curious Crow print to my online store. But I didnโt want to stop thereโI wanted to celebrate this milestone with my audience, and you! To mark the occasion, Iโve planned a giveaway and product launch starting this Saturday. Itโs an exciting way to share my work with others and give back to those who have supported me. As I mentioned I printed 20 of these prints and I don’t intend on reprinting this design. I do plan to have more prints available, but I plan to have limited quantities of each. So if you’re wanting one, act fast.
Launching this product has been a mix of learning, patience, and excitement. Iโm looking forward to seeing how people respond and where this journey takes me next. If youโve ever ordered prints or launched a new product, Iโd love to hear about your experiences, or if you have a suggestion on what should be my next launch I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
